ANTIUM 17 are:
Adam X Anzio - Vocals/Guitar/Bass/Drums

Genre: Punk/Indie/Hardcore     Website: http://www.myspace.com/antium17

** **

Bio: ANTIUM 17 was basically conjured up in the mind of Adam Anzio, the project's head. "Basically I had to do all of this myself. The way things have been in my experience, if you want to make music, you have to depend on other people to do things with you, or for you. I prefer not to do things that way. I learned the hard way that I could not do that, so I do everything myself. I'm capable of doing it all anyways, so why waste talent by doing one thing with a bunch of other people when I can just handle it all myself". This method of creating music is similar to the ways of other one-man band types, such as Beck, Trent Reznor, and Andrew W.K. A musician, outcast, and rebel from an early age, Anzio knew this was his calling early on.
The well-traveled Anzio has no particular geographical roots. He is more at home on the East Coast of the United States, where he prefers the big city over smaller towns or rural areas. “I'm pretty much a foreigner everywhere I go.” Adam has not always been comfortable everywhere he goes, even in the places he had called home. I've dealt with many different kinds of oppression and discrimination for over half of my life. I couldn't get in line if I wanted to. If I didn't like this music, or live this lifestyle, I'd still be an outcast. I'd most likely would have been dead many years ago.

Anzio is a long-time loner with a work ethic and attitude toward getting things done for himself. “I'm not a comic-book collector, a film critic, or a politician. I'm a musician. I'm not a factory worker, a bartender, or a record store clerk. I don't belong to a club. I don't belong anywhere. I'm on my own, and I'm living life the best I can on my own. I'm a musician. Bottom line. I play music. It's all I have, and all I do. This music, and this lifestyle is not a part-time job. This is not an elective for an easy A. This is not an extracurricular activity that you can just drop after graduation. This is not even my Major. This is my life.”

Adam is usually found somewhere exciting at night, either being a part of the excitement, making excitement, or struggling when things aren't happening. Notorious for staying out late, and living like a Green Beret in the jungle, Adam can surprise most with his clean-living in hard times lifestyle, having never done drugs, been drunk, or even smoked a cigarette, Adam prefers to be out and about, as opposed to sitting around, as other people live their lives, or act it out on film or television.

“I think about music all the time. It's like I have a juke box, and a multi-track recorder in my head. Antium 17 music is highly influenced by the above experiences, and the music and messages from classic hardcore punk, and drawing from many other places. The song subjects tend to be about personal and social awareness, among other things. Fun stuff, angry stuff. No pigeonholes. I write about whatever. “I've been writing songs since I was 11, and most of the songs on my first semi-legit recording have been in notebooks since 1997.”

“I grew up listening to punk rock, to include everything under it's umbrella. I started getting involved with punk personally through the hardcore scene. The punk scene was always the place for me no matter what. Today though, I'm not always comfortable. It's like so much has changed, except for me. Adam recalls a time when it was a place where outcasts from society could exist comfortably, be creative, and share their thoughts. Now it seems that the escape from a wretched society has now become it's own wretched society. “It seems no better than being in a place like high school. Things have gotten ridiculous, and I don't much care for it. The changes don't affect me as a person at all. Punk used to be against all of that, which was one reason why I gravitated towards it as a youngster. It was the only place in the world where I could be myself. It still is, no matter what everybody else is doing. I'm still going to be who I am, regardless of the way things go with other people. The same mess I have to put up with out in society is the same stuff I have to put up with in today's underground scene. Sexism, Classism, Racism, and Fascism.” That's what a lot of his songs have been about lately. I'm not a cop, and I'm not an elitist in the least bit. Things are bad now, and I've just noticed.”

"I play my favorite music the way to was originally before the pseudo-fascism became such a huge part of nearly everything. Saying I shouldn't do what I love is like telling B.B. King not to play the Blues, or saying that Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder should have never been musicians, because of their disabilities. I have neither the time, nor the tolerance for that kind of ignorance. I have a lot of things to express in many ways that I feel deserve to be heard. I didn't have a lot of resources to start bands, or I didn't have what people are looking for. This was very particular with the Hardcore scene. I had the instruments and the ability to play them, but the time, the friends, and even geography were not always on my side. I've been kicked out of bands for being too good of a musician, being of a different ethnicity or not thinking exactly like the rest. “It seemed as if everyone was out to get me, or that no one wanted anything to do with me. Everyone else seemed similar in many ways, and I didn't fit. I was fed up with dealing with other people, and know that I had to make things happen on my own. I was in the mindset that no one is going to be my friend, no one wants to work with me, and no one is going to help me out.”

"I still have a life to live."
