Bio: In a nutshell, I'm a singer/songwriter in the Kansas City area, and perform popular songs, ranging from Jimmy Buffett, to Jack Johnson, as well as my original music.
I perform solo, on acoustic guitar. Recently, I also started adding live looping to some of my shows. Basically, I play bass and/or guitar, percussion, etc. I hit a button with my foot, and it plays back to the audience what I just performed. It allows me to layer multiple parts, including background vocals, live while the audience watches. This makes for a very entertaining show. Notice that nothing is pre-recorded. This means that every night the songs will be a little different. I can create a new arrangement every night if I choose.
I was born in Cozad, Nebraska. It's not at the end of the world, but you can see it from there. I spent several years playing drums in the U.S. Army band, before moving to the Kansas City area, to pursue a love of jazz drumming.
I then spent several years playing clubs & festivals, and put out 2 jazz CD's before deciding to change directions, and pursue my other dream of singing and writing songs. I began practicing the guitar obsessively, and quickly developed the skills to accompany myself. I had started writing songs in high school, and took vocal lessons, along with piano and music theory, because in the back of my mind, I really felt like it's what I was supposed to do. I had kind of put this on hold for awhile as I was absolutely obsessed with mastering the drum-set, but I really grew up on The Beach Boys, Paul Simon, Billy Joel, and The Beatles. I'm sure you get the picture.
In an entertainment world over-run by sterile, hypnotic hip-hop, formula-driven country, and gloomy, atonal rock, I try my best to battle against current trends to create music uniquely my own.
Armed with only a handful of instruments, and a set of carefully crafted vocal pipes, I strive to create instantly memorable tunes, with enough hooks to catch Moby Dick.
When writing and creating, I prefer the silence of solitude to the comfort of company, and hide myself alone in my basement studio, in a small town on the outskirts of Kansas City, performing bass, guitar, drum & vocal parts, and capturing my work on my Boss 1180CD digital recorder.
