Bio: Biographies:
Dale Palmer - Is an "Old Boone County picker." He has played in and around Columbia for more than thirty years, and played his way across the US several times in the 1970's. He is an accomplished guitarist, specializing in the bluegrass and old timey genre of music. He is quick with a joke, and is an avid humorist, and includes these attributes in his performances. For booking information, contact Dale Palmer, at: djpalmerhouse@aol.com, or 573-443-2758. Cheers to ya!
Joe Aguirre - Joe Aguirre met Dale in the early 70's, and it was Dale that got him interested in playing live music again. Joe played guitar in a couple of garage bands in the sixties, but it was with Dale that he started playing percussion, congas and washboard on the bluegrass stuff. Joe went on to enjoy playing guitar with the Lost Canyon Drifters. After a long very dry spell of nothing but living room music, Forrest Rose convinced Joe that he should play drums and asked him to play with Blue Mule. Joe had no drums! He was looking for a certain sound and found it of all places in a Flamenco bar. There he discoverd an instrument called the Cajon, which is a box of sorts played by striking with one's hand. He then adapted the Cajons to a different approach and using different brushes added a vintage snare drum. He can get a variety of sounds out of his "drum set". It seems to work pretty well with the music he likes to play.
Dean Franklin – My jamming career began with a gift to me of a gut bucket (washtub bass) for my 45th birthday. This was followed by a number of electric
basses until I finally found a good old big acoustic bass guitar with
which I have terrorized a great number of bluegrass campground jamming
groups over the years. I love to play and particularly enjoyed being
one of Dales' "Mystery Men".*
*On a very sad note, Dean Franklin passed away on May 2, 2007, just two months after our CD, "Beer And Sawdust...With Rosie" was released. May he rest in peace.
Kathy Schubert is now the bass player for Dale Palmer and the Mystery Men. We are very pleased to have her in our group!
Kathy Schubert - As the youngest of six kids, I was exposed to all of their favorites – Elvis, Aretha Franklin, Merle Haggard, and the Beatles –to name a few. My biggest influence was my first guitar teacher that I met at 19. After the classes were over, I saw him playing guitar on his front porch and stopped by to get a free lesson. That led to more lessons, marriage, mortgage, music, and two sons. Since there were already too many guitar players in the world, everybody encouraged me to move to the lower octave. Tried bass, loved it, tried bass fiddle, loved it even more, stayed with it, played bluegrass with Ironweed for 13 years. I made the switch to old-school country when Dale was searching for a reliable bassman. How did I really end up as a Mystery Man? I’ll never tell. Up to now, I had never worked with a drummer before. It’s loads of fun, I tell ya. I’m all fired up and ready to go.
Dennis Schubert - I found a guitar in my grandad's attic when I was 10, and that was the end of the piano lessons. I have had one in my hands or close by ever since. Influenced by lots of styles, especially vintage country, bluegrass and blues. Did a long stint with the KFAL Rooster Creek Boys. Played with 40 other bands, too. In recent years, best known as mandolin player for Ironweed Bluegrass Band. Also play Dobro, pedal steel, bottleneck guitar, and other stuff with strings. Believe that good music should make you want to laugh, cry, or dance. For Dale’s recording, I used a red Telecaster with a b-bender and a Hawaiian Oahu guitar with a glamour girl decal. For gigs, I may also use a Valco or Supro steel guitar, a Danelectro tic-tac, and other occasional instruments.
