Bio: Big Medicine is a local roots rock band fronted by singer-song writer, guitarist, and music personality, Eddie Boster, (Salt of the Earth Records) who has played in such well known Columbia Bands as Dreams about Guns and The Fugitive Kind, as well as in other Missouri based bands. Eddie's melodies and lyrics weave soulful, heartfelt stories about the lost highway, dragging the river for lost loves, out of control lives speeding down the highway, and provide insights into life's dramas gained from growing up in small river-town USA.
The band provides plenty of energy, drive and color to project a solid sonic backdrop of rock, rhythm, blues and twang, bringing the musical tales to life.
Charley Waddill, has studied percussion since childhood, influenced by his years in organized music, marching band and following competitive Drum and Bugle Corps. Jim Johnson, Gene Krupa, Buddie Rich, Steve Gadd, Stewart Copeland, Danny Carey as well as other local drummers are among his many influences. He is also influenced by growing up in and around the Columbia music scene. He plays a beautiful set of 1970's era Black Diamond Pearl Slingerlands on which he propells the band with a solid cutting back-beat.
Sam Botts has taken over the position of Bass Guitar in the band and has been adding his very fine vocals to the band's sound. Sam lays down a stout line on his Epiphone Thunderbird, bringing a unifying presence to keep this rowdy, wayward bunch of musicians on the tracks.
When Eddie and Keith first met in the 70's, in that same small town that provided Eddie so much song writing inspiration, Keith was 18 years old and playing guitar in a country and western band called the Moon Runners. Keith recalls giving guitar lesson's out of Eddie's record store. A number of years ago Keith fell in love with the blues and these days, he can be found playing the blues in clubs, festivals and other venues, as singer, guitarist and harp player usually in Mr Fletcher's One Man Blues Band. (see band listing)
His role in Big Medicine is to compliment Eddie's lyrics and vocals, playing guitar parts that vary from melodic soaring lines, to country twang, scorching slide work (using standard tuning and open "D" tuning), tasteful blues lines and all out rock and roll assaults.
Big Medicine has played locally at the Blue Fugue a number of times, including a show with with Dwight Yoakam's Guitar player, Pete Anderson. They have also appeared at MOJO's and the East Side Tavern a number of times. Cooper's Landing, the Blue Note and a variety of semi-private venues are also haunts for the band. Come hear Big Medicine's special blend of roots rock, alternative country, blues and Americana at a venue near you.
